Session: The Social by Social Communities Game
The Social by Social Game walks you through the steps of thinking about a social media program for your community, whether you’re part of an organisation, a geographic community, a campaign, or anything else.
In this practical session you’ll work in small groups to describe your community and the issues it faces. You’ll think about the ways you’d like to work to address these issues using traditional methods and social media tools – all within the funding constraints we face.
We promise its fun and a great way to learn about social media tools you can try out in your community!
Biography
After 15 years working in commercial IT, Paul took a career break to refurbish redundant computer equipment for charities. Later as a social enterprise this trained unemployed young people in PC refurbishment, recycling skills and other ICT support services for voluntary and community sector groups.
This background means Paul is well placed to understand the issues of appropriate and affordable ICT equipment and support for small groups, delivered by providers operating with sustainability as their aim
Now based at NAVCA in Sheffield, Paul coordinates a Capacitybuilders funded programme of ICT Champions helping local infrastructure organisations use technology better. Although it may be dull for some or daunting for others we show ways it can enable them to operate more efficiently and be more effective with those they support. Technology for its own sake has little value, but an organisation in control of its ICT, from strategy to support can be so much more productive.
Paul also believes in how social media can give organisations a louder, more directed campaigning voice reaching a larger audience and how successful community digital inclusion initiatives can reduce social and economic exclusion, helping communities in shaping their future.
