Biography

Paul Watson is Professor of Computer Science at Newcastle University, and Director of SIDE - a centre of excellence in Social Inclusion through the Digital Economy. This £12M centre, funded by Research Councils UK, is researching how advanced technologies can be used to improve the lives of those from vulnerable groups including older people, disabled people, and disaffected youth. The work spans a range of activities including accessibility, the connected home, inclusive transport and the creative arts. Professor Watson joined Newcastle University from industry (ICL) in 1995 and has been an investigator on research projects worth over £30M.
